The shoulder season is a permanent moment to travel for retirees and those who have flexible working hours. If you have children, it may seem impossible to travel once school has started, but according to my experience, it is worth both and entirely. I spent years as a teacher by raising my own children and we generally managed to sneak in a getaway season getaway during the school year. It was a challenge that has often borne fruit.
The shoulder season is the time of year when the weather conditions are favorable and the crowds are thinner, an attractive window to visit the destinations that are packed and warm during the summer. Fall and spring are generally considered to be the shoulder season. Interested? Here are six of my favorite destinations of the shoulder season to consider for your next getaway, at home and abroad.
Cool and net: The best getaway from this year’s fall foliage in New England
1. Austin, Texas

When cooler temperatures get into play, Austin turns into a thin getaway getaway. The Barton Springs swimming pool in Zilker Park is excited like a box of sardine in summer, but this pool fed by three acres is just for a drop in shoulder season, especially with a water temperature all year round of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
By sticking with the aquatic theme, you can ride in an amphibious vehicle and tourism on dry land before diving in Austin Duck Adventures. The catering truck scene is also robust: the picnic offers a wide variety of dishes and clean restaurants, while for dessert, a candy store on South Congress avenue will satisfy your sweet tooth with a huge selection of confectionery and an old-fashioned soda fountain.
Where to stay: The fanciful atmosphere of the Zaza Austin hotel is in line with the city’s unofficial slogan, “Keep Austin Weird”. Book one of the concepts or seven suites of seven suites and you will appreciate thematic rooms with an eye decor.
2. Adirondacks, New York

The Adirondack park of more than six million acres of forest and immaculate mountains is a tonic for urban life. Fall is particularly magnificent, with deciduous trees on fire in a colored rainbow. Although it is a breathtaking destination, it is less saturated than its popular neighbors from New England to the East.
Thousands of lakes and ponds are excellent for kayaking and canoeing, colored leaves reflected on the surface of the water painting a dream image. If you are more in pedaling than to paddle, the Adirondack railway path is beckon for a bicycle ride. Hikers are settling, with walks to suit everyone, serious athletes to energetic toddlers.
Where to stay: When I close my eyes and imagine the Adirondacks, I imagine the Schroon Lake lodge, a triggered station nestled on a beautifully fitted ground. Head to the private quay and rent a pontoon boat or make a guided tour on a Chris-Craft. Swimming in the indoor pool, grilling marshmallows on the fire and enjoying healthy restoration options.
Fall-Ontre: Spoody Halloween reads that pre -teens and adolescents were deluding
3. Los Angeles, California

With the weather for a business card all year round, Los Angeles is a winner of the shoulder season. The theme parks nearby and the kilometers of beaches could occupy a family for weeks, but there is also a rich cultural scene to explore in dozens of neighborhoods. My key to the happiness of the holidays is to focus on a specific edge of the city and to avoid wasting precious time in intense traffic.
Miracle Mile is home to many museums, including the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures with vintage projections and exhibitions that plunge into the history of cinema, with free admission for guests under the age of 18. Another Mile Must-SEE miracle is the Petersen Automotive Museum. Hundreds of cars are displayed as rolling sculptures, from Batmobile to racing cars driven by Formula 1 drivers.
In the Fairfax district nearby, you can get a cunning with a personalized nail polish experience at Orly Color Labs. It is not a manicure; The mixologist helps you create the perfect nuance of Barbie Pink, Red Lipstick Red or Pansy Purple to bring home.
Where to stay: The Kimpton La Peer is a shop in store in West Hollywood accessible on foot near Miracle Mile. Equipment such as pickleball on the roof and an outdoor swimming pool join the restaurant on site Ladyhawk, serving the most beautiful cuisine in the east of the east of the city.
4. Hamptons, New York

In high season, Hamptons Ritzy are as known for its traffic jams as its beautiful beaches. Wait until the shoulder season, however, and you will enjoy a crowd without crowds that do not have to cost a fortune. For Beachcombs, there are dozens of ocean and bay beaches that do not require a parking permit once summer in the mirror. In Hampton Bays, you can watch surfers and piping piping toach piping.
Beyond the beach, the fauna refuge Quogue is a maze of ponds, rare dwarf pines and fauna that falls on seven miles of pedestrian trails, free of charge. Southampton Golf Range has an 18-hole mini-golf with local monuments.
Where to stay: In Hampton Bays, Canoe Place Inn & Cottages has beautiful rooms and spacious chalets, some with fireplace and baths on the feet. The friendly Good Ground Tavern serves fresh seafood.
5. The Danish Riviera, Denmark

Even experienced travelers may not be familiar with the Danish Riviera, a coastal section which seems to be withdrawn from a fairy tale Christian Andersen. Sand dunes, hills covered with heather and small fishing villages paint a Scandinavian symphony of garden and sea at only an hour of cosmopolitan copenhagen. An escapade in popular summer, the area is quiet in spring and fall.
The 800 -year -old market, Elsinore, is a bridge and which houses the UNESCO World Heritage List, Kronborg Castle, the impressive setting for the hamlet of Shakespeare. The perch of a bicycle is a great way to move, thanks to a fairly flat and car -free path. At the end of spring, enjoy a carpet of wild flowers; In autumn, the falling leaves are punctuated with plates of green foam as soft as it is velvet.
Where to stay: In Hornbaek, Hotel Hornbakhus has loan bikes and clean rooms decorated with simple wooden furniture and patterned wallpaper, illustrating the Danish country living in its most authentic. The dining room is a common proposal, with an evening meal at the candles served to the family at 7:00 p.m.
Quick trips: 10 funny falls from the fall weekend for the whole family
6. Palma de Mallorca, Spain

The largest of the Balearic and popular islands as summer destination with Europeans, Mallorca shines in the less tourist shoulders season. The non -stop seasonal flight from United from Newark to Palma takes place from spring to the end of autumn, facilitating a more fluid trip from the east coast.
The celestial beaches with blue water remain warm in November. Inland, vineyards and almond groves are numerous. In the capital of Palma, do not miss the Gothic cathedral and the Royal Palace of Almudaina next to it. Families will appreciate the Palma aquarium. A walk in the old Moorish district rewards with views of tile lessons and lush gardens. Celebrate local gastronomy with a tapas ramp.
Where to stay: Palais de Zafiro Palais, belonging to the family, combines magnificent rooms with an exceptional dining room, a spa, several infinity pools and family programs in Palma and the best beaches on the island.
